2 min readIn what could be considered one of the biggest developments this season, Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey has decided to walk away from the company. Citing sources close to the matter, German publication Auto Motor und Sport, confirmed that Newey was quitting his role due to internal turmoil.
This season Red Bull has made frequent headlines for all the wrong reasons. Subsequently, Newey’s future at the company was a matter of intense speculation. However, as reported by Auto Motor und Sport and confirmed by Autosport, Newey seems to be stern on ending his two-decade stint at the company.
We know about the recent power struggles inside the company between its Thai side which supports Christian Horner and its Austrian side including Helmut Marko. This has come on the back of the allegations of misconduct that were raised against team principal Christian Horner by a Red Bull employee.
According to reports, Newey is understood to be unsettled with these developments which shaped his decision to part ways with the company. This comes as a massive blow to the reigning World Champion Max Verstappen, who not so long ago, had claimed that even though he holds a contract till 2028, his decision to stay in the company will solely depend on whether all pillars of success are still standing.
Adrian Newey has been a celebrated persona in the F1 paddock, deservingly lauded for seven world championship titles with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. That being said, we are still in the dark about Newey’s next move. However, one should note that Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin racing team recently offered a big money offer at the Saudi Grand Prix. Furthermore, we also know how much interest Newey has shown in Ferrari in the past.
