Land Rover Defender Octa
The Land Rover Defender Octa has been revealed as the unhinged brother of the standard 110. With a whopping price tag of £160,000, the Octa boasts 626bhp and a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds. Here we will see everything the car packs (the list is long).
Land Rover claims that the Octa has been subjected to some insane tweaks with a ‘no compromises’ approach. We’re talking about a heavily revised chassis and Land Rover’s new 6D Dynamics suspension which gives it new modes for absolute flexibility both on and off-road. Speaking to Auto Express, Jamal Hameedi, the Director of Special Vehicle Operations at JLR stated that making an already focussed vehicle more focussed involves compromises in a lot of places. The Octa negates all of it.
At its heart, the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 makes the Octa the most powerful Defender ever with up to 750Nm of torque. To put things into perspective, the current Defender 130 V8 puts out 493bhp and 5.4-second acceleration time. The company has informed that the first batch of the car will be delivered later this year, with the UK getting 1,070 units.

The Octa scores additional points in its off-roading capabilities with improved approach, breakaway and departure angles. The wading depth is up by 100 mm and the car sits 28 mm higher and stretches 68 mm wider than the regular 110. All thanks to the chunky tyres and the wider wheel arches. Other notable engineering changes come in the form of uprated brakes, and what LR says is the fastest steering ratio of any Defender so far.
Land Rover is launching the Octa in two trim levels. The regular version kicks things off at £145,300 with the Edition 1 costing £160,800. The latter is a limited model that will be on sale in the first year only. The premium over the regular version gets new colour options as well as an upgraded interior, 20-inch alloy wheels and the option of specially developed Advanced All-Terrain Tyres.

Among the new driving modes that come on the back of its new 6D suspension system, the Octa gets a tuned Dynamic option for on-road driving joined by the brand’s first off-road performance setting. There is also an Octa mode which features an off-road launch mode for full-bore acceleration on loose surfaces. And finally, like the regular Defender, the Octa also gets the full suite of Terrain Response off-road launch mode for full-bore acceleration on loose surfaces.
