I am on the fence to call this compensation, but Lamborghini has announced that the Huracan’s successor will get an all-new bespoke engine, capable of revving up to 10,000rpm. The trade-off is fewer cylinders and potentially the sound that we are yet to hear what it’s like.

The 634 as the internal team calls it, will be fully revealed later this year and will sit a rung below the Revuelto. We have learned that the 634 will mildly take after its V12 sibling with a similar hybrid powertrain and an adaptation of its excellent eight-speed DCT.

In terms of numbers on the spec sheet, the 4.0-litre V8 will output a peak 778bhp between 9000 and 9750rpm and 538 lb-ft of torque between 4000 and 7000rpm. To put things into perspective, the Tecnica and STO Huracan peaked at 631bhp and 417 lb-ft. The ICE part runs in tandem with three electric motors. One of which is positioned between the engine and transmission which contributes 148bhp and 221 lb-ft of torque.

While Lamborghini is yet to reveal the 634’s performance numbers, the faster-shifting transmission, the trio of electric motors and the significant bump in power in comparison to the outgoing bull, we are expecting some fireworks. To put things into perspective, the V10-powered Huracan Tecnica hit the 62mph mark from standstill in an impressive 3.2 seconds and went on tap out at 202mph. While the Tecnica was advantageous with its 1379kg kerb weight, the 634’s higher output is likely to make up for it.

The 634 will replace one of the best-sounding cars and Lamborghini is aware of the shoes it will be expected to fill. The Italian carmaker says that the 634 will have a ‘unique and distinctive’ character. While the jury is still out on the same, the 10,000rpm V8 does set some expectations that we can liberally bet on.

Lamborghini is set to unveil further details about the car at its launch later this year. So stay tuned to this space to know what it’s all about.
